Something in the low end

Madison called the new bass Tigershark. Vora seems determined to earn the name.

Hocus Modus — Something in the low end

Madison named the new Yamaha bass Tigershark. Vora picked it up with the sort of smile that makes me check whether I've agreed to something.

Natural mango wood. Four strings. It looked almost sweet under the studio lights.

Celeste gave her the riff we'd been staying late over. Vora listened without playing. Once. Twice. Then she found a place underneath it that I hadn't realised was empty.

I stopped singing so I could hear it happen.

That's becoming a habit around here. Someone adds a part and the rest of us have to listen differently. A space I was about to fill turns out to belong to the bass. A note I wanted to hold gets much more interesting when I let it go.

Vexa watched them for a moment, then lifted her sticks. Nobody had to explain where the beat should land.

Black Cat Media keeps bringing new equipment into the room. We're finding out what it brings out of us.

Vora caught me watching and asked whether I liked it.

I told her it was going to be a problem.

She took that exactly as intended.
